Free Mental Health Skills Training Available for GPs and GP Registrars in South Western Sydney

The training includes Level 1 Mental Health Skills Training and Level 2 Focused Psychological Strategies Skills Training. It will be delivered by The Black Dog Institute in May and July 2026, with both online and face-to-face learning components.

Participants must complete Level 1 before enrolling in Level 2.

Cost and registration

Each training level is valued at $800 per participant. A refundable deposit of $200 per level is required to secure a place. The deposit is refunded after attendance but will be forfeited if a participant does not attend or cancels less than one month before the session.

Places are limited and first come first served rule will be followed.

 

Training programs offered

Dealing with Depression (Level 1 – Mental Health Skills Training)
This program helps GPs and GP registrars develop practical skills to diagnose and manage depression using case-based learning. It includes self-directed learning and online Zoom sessions, totalling 7.5 hours on 30 May 2026.
It is accredited for 7.5 CPD hours by RACGP and ACRRM.

ABC of CBT (Level 2 – Focused Psychological Strategies Skills Training)
This course provides practical psychological tools for use in general practice and supports eligibility to provide Medicare-rebated Focused Psychological Strategies. It includes 21.5 hours of training across two face-to-face sessions on 11 and 25 July 2026 at William Inglis Hotel, Warwick Farm.
It is accredited for 21.5 CPD hours by RACGP and ACRRM.

The program is designed specifically for GPs and GP registrars working in South Western Sydney.
