Conference Opens Registrations to Support the Future of General Practice

21 May 2026

The event, titled “Future-proofing general practice: a deep dive on viability and sustainability”, will be held at The William Inglis Hotel in Warwick Farm on 18 October 2026. It will run from 8.30am to 5.15pm, with attendance free and lunch provided.

The conference is designed for GPs, practice managers, and general practice staff. It will also provide 6 RACGP-approved CPD hours.

Organisers say the event will focus on practical strategies to support sustainable general practice, including workforce management, improving practice workflows, strengthening Medicare billing, and using digital tools such as artificial intelligence in primary care.

It comes as general practice in South Western Sydney faces ongoing pressure, including workforce shortages, GP burnout, and financial strain. Since 2023, 59 practices in the region have closed or merged, contributing to longer waiting times and reduced access to care.

The program will include sessions on AI in general practice, leadership, employment relationships, managing change, and improving team systems. It will also provide guidance on navigating Medicare billing and recent primary care reforms.

Expert speakers will include Greg Baker (Macquarie University), Eden Elliott-Griggs (Wise Workplace Training), Kim Poyner (MediCoach), and Wendy O’Meara (MBS specialist).

The conference aims to give participants practical tools to improve efficiency, strengthen practice sustainability, and support better patient care in a changing healthcare environment.
