Ms Edwards, who joined the organisation in 2020, says she was drawn to the role because of the important work Primary Health Networks do in supporting community health needs, particularly in outer metropolitan areas.

She said her priority as Chair will be to strengthen advocacy on key issues including workforce shortages, GP-to-patient ratios, culturally safe care, and health equity.

Ms Edwards is also the Clinical Director at Gidget Foundation Australia and has experience across public and private health sectors, including clinical psychology and health governance.

She said South Western Sydney PHN has a strong approach to commissioning services that are evidence-based and tailored to community needs.

Collaboration is also a key focus, with continued partnerships planned with GPs, allied health providers, local organisations, and the Local Health District to improve care delivery.

Ms Edwards also highlighted the importance of working closely with Aboriginal community-controlled organisations, including Tharawal Aboriginal Corporation and Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council, to better support First Nations families.

She said she is looking forward to supporting innovation and the use of technology to improve primary care and strengthen healthcare access for a growing population.
