New resources help GPs encourage cancer screening across Australia

13 Oct 2026

New resources are helping Australian healthcare professionals explain cancer screening to patients and encourage them to participate in national screening programs.

From September 2026, screening packs have been sent to more than 7,000 general practices across Australia. The resources are designed to help GPs start conversations about screening and support patients in making informed decisions about their health.

The packs cover four national programs:

  • National Bowel Cancer Screening Program
  • BreastScreen Australia
  • National Cervical Screening Program
  • National Lung Cancer Screening Program

Each pack includes posters for practice waiting rooms, sample bowel cancer test kits and cervical self-collection swabs. It also contains illustrated guides explaining screening procedures, eligibility information and resources to help healthcare professionals discuss screening with patients.

Digtal versions of the materials are available through the Cancer Screening Toolkit for Healthcare Providers.
