World Menopause Day highlights the need for better awareness and support
18 Oct 2026
Women experience this stage of life differently. Around one in two women report mild to moderate menopause-related symptoms, while one in four experience symptoms severe enough to affect daily activities. Another one in four report no symptoms.
The Australian Government is encouraging greater community discussion and education to help women understand these changes and explore available support.
To mark World Menopause Day, the Department of Health is encouraging people to:
- Visit health.gov.au/perimenopause for information about symptoms, treatment and management options.
- Listen to PeriCurious, a special episode of the Out Loud podcast developed in partnership with Mamamia. The episode became available on 18 October through podcast platforms.
These initiatives aim to improve access to reliable information and support women through perimenopause and menopause.
