Three Victorians charged after $2 million steroid and peptide seizure
17 Apr 2026
The operation was led by the Australian Border Force, working with the Therapeutic Goods Administration and Victoria Police.
Authorities say the eight-month investigation uncovered an alleged syndicate importing steroids, peptides and other performance and image enhancing drugs into Australia, with an estimated street value of more than $2 million.
The investigation began in August 2025 after border officers intercepted 640 vials of illegal substances in air cargo shipments. Further checks found dozens of similar consignments had already been delivered to the same recipient.
In March 2026, officers carried out search warrants at properties in Melbourne’s west, where they seized more than 10,000 vials, 600 tablets, cannabis seeds, and electronic devices.
A 47-year-old man was charged with importing prohibited goods and later granted bail. Two others, a 46-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman, were also charged following further raids and have been released on bail.
ABF Commander Graeme Campbell said the case shows the strength of joint operations between border and health agencies in stopping illegal drugs from reaching the community.
TGA Head Professor Anthony Lawler warned that unapproved steroids and peptide products can be dangerous, especially when injected, with risks including infection, contamination, and tissue damage.
He said working with enforcement partners helps stop unsafe products entering the community and holds offenders accountable.
Health authorities also reminded the public that peptide products must be approved and regulated in Australia before use.
