Hobart to Host BreastScreen Australia Conference in 2028

Held every two years, the conference attracts more than 500 experts from Australia and overseas. The three-day event will focus on improving breast screening services, sharing research, and exploring new approaches to early cancer detection.
Deputy Secretary for Health Service Operations, Jen Duncan, said hosting the conference is an important achievement for Tasmania and an opportunity to showcase the work of the state's Population Screening and Cancer Prevention team.
The event will bring together radiologists, epidemiologists, program managers, researchers and healthcare advocates to exchange knowledge and strengthen breast screening services across Australia.
Tasmania's Population Screening and Cancer Prevention service manages national screening programs for breast, cervical, bowel and lung cancers, supporting early detection and improving health outcomes.
Ms Duncan said the service is committed to ensuring people across Tasmania can access cancer screening, including those living in regional and rural communities.
She also encouraged eligible Tasmanians to attend their recommended cancer screening appointments, highlighting that early detection improves the chance of successful treatment and can save lives.
