SWSPHN Staff Gain New Insights from Advance Care Planning Workshops
14 Apr 2026
The session was delivered by the Palliative Aged Care Consultancy Service (PACCS) during National Advance Care Planning Week. It focused on why planning ahead for healthcare decisions is important, how to start conversations, and what can happen if no plan is in place.
Advance care planning helps people think about what matters to them, talk with others, and make decisions about future medical care. It is not only for people with serious illness and can also support those who may lose decision-making ability.
The workshop highlighted that having a plan can lead to care that matches a person’s values and reduce stress for families and healthcare providers.
PACCS will now deliver similar workshops across the region to help more people understand and complete advance care plans.
Staff were also introduced to useful tools and conversation starters to help guide discussions with patients about their future care needs.
