GPs take flu vaccinations to Queensland’s Ekka

The Ekka, which celebrates its 150th year in 2026, attracts more than 400,000 visitors each year, making it a major opportunity to promote vaccination and preventive healthcare.
GPs are working alongside Queensland Health staff at the Ekka Flu Vaccination Clinic, where visitors can receive a free influenza vaccination.
RACGP Queensland Chair Dr Cath Hester said the clinic is also an opportunity for GPs to talk with visitors about vaccination and the importance of regular preventive healthcare.
She said the convenient service has been well received by Ekka visitors and gives GPs a chance to discuss other vaccines and preventive health needs.
Queensland GPs have already administered more than 1.5 million flu vaccinations this season, representing 57% of all influenza vaccinations given across the state.
Almost 74,000 flu cases have been reported across Australia this year, including around 14,000 cases in Queensland.
RACGP members and staff will continue supporting the pop-up clinic on 11, 12 and 15 August, alongside Queensland Health and other healthcare partners.
