Medical Registration Fees Rise for Australian Doctors in 2026

The new fee is $44 higher than the 2025 amount of $1058, representing a 4.2% increase. Doctors whose principal place of practice is in NSW will pay $925.
The MBA says registration fees help cover the cost of regulating the medical profession and meeting public safety requirements.
Doctors have until 30 September 2026 to renew their general, specialist or non-practising registration.
There is also some financial relief available for eligible doctors. Those taking parental, disability or carer’s leave can apply for a 30% rebate on their annual registration fee when completing their renewal.
Registration fees help fund several regulatory activities, including processing applications, developing professional standards, investigating concerns about registered practitioners and managing legal proceedings.
