ANSC Skills Day builds practical maternity care skills
07 Oct 2026
The event was held at Ngara Health Education Centre and brought ANSC providers together for professional learning, hands-on training and discussions with maternity care specialists.
The program covered several areas that GPs may encounter when caring for women during pregnancy and after birth.
Topics included managing pelvic floor and musculoskeletal issues, genetic screening and referral processes, and recognising when a clinical concern needs further assessment or escalation.
Participants also received education on infant feeding and lactation.
The practical component allowed GPs to develop skills such as abdominal palpation, measuring symphysis-fundal height and checking the fetal heart rate.
The activity was approved by the RACGP for five Educational Activities hours and can contribute to the education requirements for ANSC registration.
Participant feedback was positive, with all respondents saying they would recommend the continuing professional development activity to a colleague.
ANSC skills days are held twice each year. Dates for the 2027 sessions will be announced.
