COVID-19 vaccination moves to the National Immunisation Program from October

From October, COVID-19 vaccines will be managed under the same processes used for other NIP vaccines. In NSW, vaccine ordering, distribution, reporting, cold chain breach management and program support will be managed by NSW Health.
Key changes for providers
The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has provided the following information to help providers prepare for the transition:
- NCVP vaccine ordering: Ordering through the COVID-19 Vaccine Administration System (CVAS) closed on 28 August 2026. No further NCVP orders can be placed.
- Stock on Hand reporting: Providers must complete their final Stock on Hand (SOH) report by Friday, 25 September 2026.
- CVAS and support: CVAS and the Vaccine Operations Centre (VOC) will remain available until 30 September to help with final reporting, cold chain breach assessments and transition-related questions.
- Cold chain breaches: Continue reporting and managing cold chain breach matters through the VOC until 30 September. From 1 October, these processes will move to NSW Health under standard NIP arrangements.
- Vaccine ordering from 1 October: Providers will order and manage COVID-19 vaccines through their state or territory vaccine ordering system and existing NIP processes. NSW Health will provide further information about local arrangements.
Providers needing assistance before 30 September can contact the Vaccine Operations Centre on 1800 318 208, use the Enquiries form under the Get Help tab in their CVAS account, or email the Vaccine Operations Centre.
The transition means COVID-19 vaccination will become part of the ongoing NIP arrangements from 1 October, rather than continuing under the temporary NCVP framework.
