Victorian Budget 2026–27 boosts healthcare access and hospital services

06 May 2026

The Budget focuses on making healthcare more affordable, faster, and closer to home for Victorians.

A key part of the plan includes $1.6 billion to support public hospitals so they can continue meeting growing patient demand.

Funding will also go towards expanding and upgrading hospitals in outer suburbs and regional areas, including new and improved emergency departments, community hospitals, and major hospital upgrades across multiple locations.

The Budget also invests in health infrastructure, equipment replacement, and mental health services to strengthen the overall system.

In emergency care, funding will support faster ambulance response times, improved Triple Zero call handling, and additional urgent care clinics to ease pressure on hospitals.

Planned surgery access will also be expanded, including thousands of additional paediatric surgeries and specialist appointments for children.

More care will be delivered closer to home through programs supporting home-based treatment, virtual hospital services, and local dialysis care.

Family and maternity services will be expanded with more ultrasound appointments, postnatal beds, and special care nursery capacity in growing communities.

Support for older Victorians includes improved aged care services, hospital-in-the-home programs, and expanded residential care support.

Mental health funding will support new hospital beds, community services, crisis response programs, youth outreach, and Aboriginal-led wellbeing initiatives.

The Budget also includes harm reduction and treatment services, including public intoxication response programs and pill testing services.

Officials say the investment is aimed at building a stronger, more accessible healthcare system across Victoria.
