Tasmania Extends Public Consultation on New Mental Health Strategy

Tasmania Extends Public Consultation on New Mental Health Strategy

20 May 2026

The draft discussion paper outlines how Tasmania plans to build a more connected and inclusive mental health system. It focuses on early support, prevention, and improving services across all levels of care.

The strategy aims to be developed in partnership with the community, including people with lived experience of mental illness, carers, health workers, and members of the wider public who are interested in mental wellbeing.

The government says the final plan will reflect the needs and experiences of people across Tasmania, including those in regional and remote areas.

Community members are being encouraged to share their views through written feedback and regional forums held across the state in the south, north, and north-west.

The consultation period has now been extended until Friday, 29 May 2026.

Officials say there are no right or wrong answers, and all feedback will help shape a more person-centred and sustainable mental health system for the future.
