Tasmania introduces IVF rebate to make fertility treatment more affordable
18 May 2026
From 1 July 2026, people in Tasmania undergoing approved fertility treatment may be able to claim financial support to help cover out-of-pocket costs.
The program is designed to make fertility care more affordable and easier to access for people trying to start or grow a family.
The rebate can be used for eligible treatments including IVF cycles, including fertility preservation, and artificial insemination.
Services must be provided in Tasmania through approved providers, including TasIVF or Fertility Tasmania.
The rebate covers costs not already paid through Medicare or private health insurance.
To be eligible, applicants must be Tasmanian residents, receive treatment between 1 July 2026 and 30 June 2028, and be undergoing treatment with the intention of becoming pregnant.
Applications will be made through the SmartyGrants portal or at Service Tasmania centres, managed by the Department of State Growth.
People living in regional areas may also be able to access travel support through the Patient Travel Assistance Scheme.
The initiative aims to ease financial pressure and improve access to fertility care across Tasmania.
