North West Tasmanians urged to use emergency care wisely

The fire on Saturday night has affected local health services, with North West Regional Hospital working to maintain patient care and reduce disruption while additional capacity is arranged.
Department Secretary Dale Webster thanked the community for its support and encouraged people with non-emergency health concerns to consider other available services.
Anyone experiencing a medical emergency should attend the nearest Emergency Department. Emergency teams will continue to. A registered nurse can assess symptoms and help direct callers to an appropriate service, such as a GP, pharmacist, urgent care clinic or virtual care through Care@home.
Medicare Urgent Care Clinics in Burnie and Devonport are available for urgent health issues that cannot wait for a regular GP appointment. These clinics are bulk-billed, so patients do not have to pay for the service.
Medicare Mental Health Centres are also available in Burnie and Devonport from Monday to Friday, alongside other community mental health services funded by the Tasmanian Government.
Some patients with less urgent needs may face longer waits over the coming days. The Department said it will continue working to ensure patients receive the care required during the disruption.
The Department also thanked healthcare staff for their ongoing work and professionalism during the situation.
