New Tasmanian Breast Care Centre opens to improve cancer services

New Tasmanian Breast Care Centre opens to improve cancer services

13 May 2026

The centre is located on Level 6 of the Liverpool Clinics and brings together breast screening, diagnostic imaging, and support services for people with or at risk of breast cancer.

It includes BreastScreen Tasmania services, the Diagnostic Breast Imaging Service, and other related care in one central location.

The facility has five mammography rooms and three ultrasound rooms, and will also offer more advanced procedures, including contrast enhanced mammography, which is a first for Tasmania’s public health system.

Health officials say the centre will improve access to breast screening and diagnostic services for thousands of people across the state.

The design was developed with input from clinicians, health service providers, and consumer groups to make the space more comfortable and private for patients.

The centre also includes separate waiting areas and reception spaces for different services, along with natural lighting and artwork to create a calm environment.

In addition to breast services, the site will also support other cancer screening programs, including bowel, cervical, and lung screening services.

More information is available through BreastScreen Tasmania and the Tasmanian Department of Health.
