Ahpra calls for experts to join drug and alcohol screening panel
04 May 2026
Ahpra is seeking medical practitioners with experience in diagnosing and treating people affected by drug or alcohol misuse, including cases involving impairment.
The panel advises on testing, biological assessment and ongoing monitoring of health practitioners who may have substance-related issues.
The role is part of the National Scheme, which oversees health practitioner registration and regulation across Australia.
Ahpra says the work also supports efforts to build a culturally safe health system and reduce racism in healthcare, particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
As part of this focus, the organisation is encouraging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to apply and contribute to leadership within the system.
Ahpra is also encouraging applications from people from diverse backgrounds, including those with disability, carers, people in rural and remote areas, and members of the LGBTIQA+ community.
Support can be arranged for applicants who need adjustments during the recruitment process.
Applications for the Expert Panel close at 11:55pm on Sunday 31 May 2026 (AEST).
More details and applications are available through Ahpra’s statutory appointments page, and enquiries can be sent to statutoryappointments@ahpra.gov.au.
