ACT Authorities Seize Large Quantities of Illegal Tobacco and Vaping Products

On 30 July 2026, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), ACT Access Canberra – City and Environment Directorate and ACT Policing worked together to target the illegal supply of vaping products and tobacco.
Four search warrants were carried out at the same time across four locations, including two retail businesses in Kippax, a retail premises in Belconnen and a home in north Canberra.
The TGA seized more than 1,500 illegal vaping products.
Access Canberra also seized large quantities of illicit tobacco, including more than 27,800 grams of loose tobacco and over 156,800 cigarettes.
The operation highlights ongoing cooperation between the TGA, Access Canberra and ACT Policing to tackle the illegal tobacco and vaping trade in the ACT.
Authorities said the action supports the National Vaping Enforcement Framework and aims to protect the community by disrupting unlawful supply.
Under Australian law, retailers, including tobacconists and convenience stores, cannot sell vaping products unless they are participating pharmacies.
Businesses and individuals who breach vaping laws can face serious penalties under the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989. Penalties can include up to seven years' imprisonment, fines of up to $2.55 million per offence for individuals and up to $25.5 million per offence for corporations.
The TGA is asking anyone with information about the illegal supply of vaping products to report it through the TGA's official reporting service.
