Winter wellness – know your options this flu season
27 Jun 2025
This winter, if you feel unwell with cold or flu symptoms and think you need help, here’s what you can do.
Option 1: Speak to your GP first
Your regular GP should be the first contact when you feel ill. They know your health history and can give the right care. To lower the risk of spreading germs:
- see if your GP offers telehealth appointments
- wear a mask if you must leave home
Option 2: Call healthdirect
Call healthdirect if your GP isn’t available. Healthdirect is a 24-hour health advice service.
When you call the healthdirect helpline you speak to a nurse about your symptoms and what to do next. If you need care, the nurse might book an Urgent Care appointment for you. The nurse can also help you find a nearby pharmacy or suggest a GP if you don’t have one.

Option 3: Visit Urgent Care
For things which need urgent medical attention the same day, Urgent Care is a great option if your GP is not available. Urgent Care provides walk-in, bulk billed care and is open early and late every day.
