WA Introduces Needle-Free Flu Vaccine for Children
15 Apr 2026
The program will roll out about 130,000 doses of FluMist for children aged 2–11. GPs and trained immunisers will give the vaccine across the state.
Ramya Raman said the vaccine will make flu protection easier for families, especially for children who are scared of needles.
She said influenza can still make children very sick and even lead to hospital stays. A simple nasal spray can help improve vaccination rates.
Dr Raman added that flu vaccination is still the best way to prevent serious illness and reduce spread in the community during winter.
The WA Health described the vaccine as a painless and effective option for protecting against influenza A and B.
