WA Budget boosts mental health and alcohol and drug services
07 May 2026
The State Government has announced a total investment of $1.77 billion to strengthen support services, improve access to care, and expand crisis response and treatment options.
Funding will support a range of initiatives, including new and expanded mental health services, crisis response programs, and community-based supports.
Key investments include funding for:
- Community-based mental health crisis response services
- New mental health beds at Joondalup Health Campus
- Continued support for outreach and recovery teams
- Ambulance co-response mental health services
- Infant, child and adolescent mental health hubs
- Perinatal mental health support in regional areas
- Crisis support expansion for rural and remote communities
- Suicide prevention programs and workforce expansion
- Family and domestic violence prevention initiatives
- Social and emotional wellbeing services for Aboriginal communities
The Government says the funding is aimed at improving early intervention, reducing pressure on hospitals, and strengthening community-based care across Western Australia.
It also includes ongoing investment to support the sustainability of existing mental health and AOD programs and services.
Officials say the package aligns with the state’s long-term strategy for mental health and alcohol and other drug services from 2026 to 2031.
