Townsville Gains New Hub to Support Future of General Practice

The new location in Townsville’s CBD will act as a base for RACGP programs across North and Far North Queensland, helping connect medical educators, trainees, healthcare organisations and local communities.
Associate Professor Michael Clements, RACGP Rural Chair and a Townsville GP, said the new office demonstrates a long-term commitment to regional healthcare and the future of general practice.
He said having a local presence gives doctors and trainees a place where they can directly engage with the college, access support and better understand the opportunities available within general practice.
The facility will play a key role in supporting GP training and encouraging more doctors to continue their careers in regional areas.
Associate Professor Clements said a physical location helps strengthen relationships with local healthcare professionals and shows that regional communities remain an important part of the RACGP’s work.
The journey to establish the Townsville office involved years of planning to identify a location that could meet the needs of members while ensuring responsible use of resources.
The new hub will provide space for RACGP staff, medical educators and future GP trainees, supporting education, collaboration and workforce development across the region.
The RACGP believes regional facilities like the Townsville office can help improve access to training opportunities and contribute to a stronger healthcare system for rural and regional communities.
