Three GPs Compete to Become the Next RACGP President
The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) has announced the three candidates standing for its next Presidential election. Members will vote in August, with the successful candidate taking office in November for a two-year term.
The candidates are Dr Anita Muñoz (Victoria), Dr Gavin Colthart (Queensland) and Dr Ramya Raman (Western Australia).
Dr Anita Muñoz is a GP, practice owner and medical educator who has served as RACGP Victoria Chair for the past six years. Her priorities include improving GP funding, recognising the value of general practice and keeping GPs at the centre of patient care.
Dr Gavin Colthart is a GP with experience in rural and remote healthcare across Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. He has also worked in healthcare management, research and medical policy.
Dr Ramya Raman is the current RACGP Vice President and WA Chair. Her focus includes making better use of member resources, supporting an independent Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) pricing authority and strengthening training pathways for international medical graduates and future Fellows.
Voting for the RACGP Presidential election will take place from 11 August to 21 August 2026, with the President-elect to be announced on 24 August. The successful candidate will officially begin the role at the RACGP Annual General Meeting on 19 November 2026.
Current RACGP President Dr Michael Wright said leading the college has been a rewarding experience and described the role as an important opportunity to represent GPs and advocate for the profession.
