Thousands access ADHD prescriptions under NSW GP reforms
24 Apr 2026
More than 1100 GPs are now authorised under the updated system, with close to half working in regional and rural areas.
The reforms are also easing financial pressure, with earlier estimates suggesting patients could save between $500 and $1,400 each year. The government says total savings may already have reached up to $10 million.
Royal Australian College of General Practitioners NSW&ACT Chair Dr Rebekah Hoffman said the changes are improving access to care, reducing wait times, and supporting better long-term management for patients.
She noted the impact has been particularly strong outside metropolitan areas, where access to specialists is more limited.
The government also confirmed that 311 GPs have begun additional training to expand their role in ADHD diagnosis and treatment.
