TGA Seeks Feedback on Clearer Vitamin B6 Medicine Warnings
14 Oct 2026
High vitamin B6 intake can cause nerve damage, which may lead to serious and long-lasting effects. The proposed requirements would cover listed medicines containing pyridoxine hydrochloride, pyridoxal 5-phosphate or pyridoxal 5-phosphate monohydrate.
Vitamin B6 is used in products for treating deficiencies and supporting general wellbeing. Many of these products are available from pharmacies, supermarkets and health food stores.
The consultation follows planned changes to access controls. From 1 June 2027, oral vitamin B6 products containing more than 50 mg and up to 200 mg per recommended daily dose will be classified as pharmacist-only medicines. Consumers will need to speak with a pharmacist before purchasing these products.
The TGA will consider the feedback before making a final decision on the proposed labelling changes.
