TGA Fines NSW Nurse Over Alleged Illegal Import of Cosmetic Injectables
06 Jul 2026
According to the TGA, the nurse, who is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, allegedly imported unapproved vials of botulinum toxin and pre-filled syringes containing lidocaine. The infringement notices were issued in May 2026.
The TGA said the products were not included on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG), meaning they have not been assessed for quality, safety or effectiveness and may pose a risk to public health.
The regulator reminded health practitioners, businesses and individuals that they must understand and comply with Australian laws before importing therapeutic goods. Failure to comply may result in infringement notices, enforcement action or civil and criminal penalties.
The TGA said it is continuing to work with law enforcement agencies, health regulators and state and territory authorities to address illegal activity in the cosmetic and wellness sectors. The regulator has identified unapproved cosmetic therapeutic goods as a compliance priority for 2026–27.
The TGA also encourages anyone who suspects unlawful supply, importation or advertising of therapeutic goods to report it to the agency.
