TGA Considers Removing Herbal Ingredient Andrographis from Cold and Flu Products
09 Apr 2026
The move comes after safety and effectiveness concerns, with experts calling for its removal from listed medicines.
An RACGP spokesperson welcomed the proposal, saying it reflects the importance of ensuring herbal medicines meet safety standards and provide real benefits for patients.
The TGA’s review is part of ongoing efforts to keep medicines in Australia safe, reliable, and backed by evidence. Patients using products containing Andrographis are encouraged to speak with their healthcare provider before making changes to their treatment.
