Strengthening and Expanding the Midwifery Workforce or
09 Sep 2025
The Tasmanian Department of Health has released a new strategy to support and grow the state’s midwifery workforce. Midwifery Matters 2025–2030 sets out a roadmap for the future of midwifery in Tasmania, highlighting the vital role midwives play in delivering high-quality care to mothers and babies.
The strategy focuses on the voices of Tasmanian women and considers key issues such as workforce, education, national policy, and system design. It aims to ensure maternity care is safe, respectful, and centred on the needs of women and families.
The Department encourages midwives, women, families, and other stakeholders to provide feedback. Online submissions and consultation sessions are open until 5 October 2025.
