Shortage of ADHD medicines – important update
08 Apr 2025
In addition to the ongoing shortage of Concerta and Methylphenidate-Teva XR, there are now shortages of Ritalin and Artige immediate-release tablets.
A shortage of Ritalin LA capsules is also expected:
-
30 mg strength – from 21 April 2025
-
Other strengths – from May, June and July 2025
These medicines are used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
We understand that these shortages cause concern and difficulty, especially because methylphenidate hydrochloride has strict rules for prescribing and dispensing. This notice is to help patients and prescribers plan ahead.
-
Patients should talk to their pharmacist about their current supply.
-
Patients should also see their prescriber early to discuss treatment, as a new prescription may be needed.
Another methylphenidate medicine is still available, and overseas-registered Concerta tablets can be supplied. Other approved ADHD medicines are also available.
