SA GPs and Health Leaders Team Up to Boost Flu Vaccination
14 Apr 2026
New SA Health and Wellbeing Minister Blair Boyer joined Nicola Spurrier and RACGP representatives at Arkaba Medical Centre to promote vaccination, even getting their flu shots during the visit.
The push comes after a record flu season in 2025, with health officials aiming to lift vaccination rates and reduce hospitalisations and deaths this year.
RACGP SA Chair Siân Goodson said strong teamwork between GPs and SA Health is key to improving uptake, as patients are more likely to get vaccinated when their GP recommends it.
A new needle-free flu vaccine, known as FluMist, is also being rolled out for young children. It is given as a nasal spray instead of an injection, making it easier and less stressful for kids.
GPs across the state have already started flu clinics and are offering vaccines during regular appointments to make access easier.
Health experts say simple steps like getting vaccinated can help protect vulnerable people and reduce the impact of flu in the community.
