Revised criminal history registration standard now in effect
15 Jul 2026
The updated standard guides National Boards when assessing whether a person's criminal history is relevant to their suitability to register as a health practitioner in Australia.
To support the changes, Ahpra and the National Boards have released a series of information guides for registration applicants, students, registered practitioners and the public, explaining how the revised standard will be applied.
An advance copy of the updated standard was published in May 2026, giving practitioners and applicants time to become familiar with the changes before they commenced.
Ahpra encourages practitioners, students and future applicants to review the revised standard and the supporting resources available on the Criminal History Registration Standard webpage to better understand the new requirements.
