Record Number of Doctors Start GP Training in Victoria

In February 2026, 363 doctors began GP training in Victoria, the highest number ever.

  • 161 standard AGPT program
  • 149 rural pathway
  • 53 composite pathway
  • 63 Rural Generalists

    Dr Anita Muñoz, RACGP Victoria Chair, said the numbers show growing confidence in general practice and support for rural healthcare. Nationwide, 1,772 doctors are starting GP training this year.
