Raise Awareness, Increase the Chance of Early Diagnosis

Raise Awareness, Increase the Chance of Early Diagnosis

22 Sep 2025

Did you know?

  • Over 21,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia this year.

  • It is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Australia.

  • A woman’s lifetime risk of developing breast cancer in Australia is 1 in 7, while for men it is 1 in 556.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month aims to:

  • Educate the community about breast cancer prevention, detection, and treatment.

  • Support breast cancer research and survivors.

  • Encourage regular screenings and early detection.

What can you do?
Women aged 50–74 are encouraged to have a breast screen every two years. Mammograms can detect cancer before symptoms appear, increasing treatment options and survival chances.

  • Find out more or book a screening at BreastScreen NSW.

  • For comprehensive information on symptoms, causes, diagnosis, treatment, screening, prevention, and prognosis, visit the Cancer Council Australia website.

Early detection saves lives—make your screening a priority.
