RACGP to discuss pharmacist prescribing proposal in upcoming webinars

14 May 2026

The Pharmacy Board of Australia is currently consulting on plans that could expand pharmacist prescribing responsibilities. The consultation is open until 15 June.

The RACGP says the proposal could have major implications for prescribing practices, diagnosis, and long-term patient care across Australia’s health system.

To help members understand the proposal, RACGP President Dr Michael Wright will host two webinars covering the key changes, regulatory issues, and the college’s response to the consultation.

The college says its submission will focus on protecting patient safety, maintaining continuity of care, and ensuring proper risk management across healthcare services.

The latest RACGP In Practice update also shares several new announcements and opportunities for GPs and healthcare professionals.

Lamotrigine for bipolar disorder has now been added to the PBS as a restricted benefit, with updated authority forms available through Services Australia.

Nominations for the 2026 RACGP Awards are also closing soon, recognising GPs, registrars, supervisors, and educators for their contribution to healthcare and the profession.

Applications are still open for the RACGP Mentoring Program, which connects mentors and mentees to support career growth and professional development in general practice.

Upcoming education events include a webinar on caring for adults with intellectual disability and the WA Clinical Update 2026, focusing on practical updates for GPs across several areas of healthcare.

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs has also released new resources and updates aimed at improving support for veterans and their families.
