New referral options for Medicare Mental Health Check In
The Federal Government's Medicare Mental Health Check In is a free and confidential early intervention service for people aged 16 and over experiencing mild mental health challenges.
New referral options were introduced on 7 October to make the service easier to access.
GPs in six Primary Health Networks can now refer patients directly through their practice software or a secure online form. This referral option is expected to expand nationally in mid-November.
People aged 18 and over can also refer themselves by completing a short online form about how they are feeling and the support they need. A qualified clinician will then contact them to discuss the next steps.
Additional webinar for GPs on mental health referrals
Date: Wednesday 18 November
Time: 11.00 am–12.00 pm AEDT
The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has announced an additional free webinar to help GPs understand the Medicare Mental Health Check In service and its referral process.
Clinical and service delivery experts will explain which patients may benefit, when and how to make referrals, and how the service can work alongside general practice care.
The session will include a live question-and-answer discussion about referral processes and integrating the service into clinical practice. It will cover the same information as the 4 November webinar.
