RACGP Opens Major Research Grants for GP-Led Studies

24 Mar 2026

The Ageing Well Research Grant, worth $150,000 and supported by the Wicking Trust, focuses on ageing, aged care, and end-of-life care. It aims to fund research that creates real-world tools and approaches that can be used in general practice.

The Health Services Research in General Practice Grant, valued at $120,000 and supported by the HCF Research Foundation, supports studies on access to care, models of care, and the effectiveness of general practice services.

Australia’s aged care system continues to face major challenges. More than one in six Australians are now aged over 65, and thousands face delays accessing aged care services, including home care. General practice plays a central role, but research findings don’t always translate into everyday practice.

Professor Dimity Pond, Chair of the RACGP Expert Committee – Research, said the grants aim to bridge this gap.

“ GPs need practical, evidence-based tools to support older Australians, and this grant is designed to deliver exactly that,” she said.

Applications for both grants close at 9:00 am (AEST), 21 April 2026
