RACGP Invites Nominations for Expert Committee on General Practice Standards
30 Apr 2026
The committee is responsible for helping develop and maintain the national Standards for general practices, which guide quality and safety in Australian primary care. It also ensures the Standards stay up to date with modern general practice, remain independent of government policy, and align with national and international best practice.
Members of the committee also support consistent interpretation of the Standards across accreditation bodies, monitor developments in healthcare standards, and help improve communication about standards within the profession and wider community.
Applications must include a completed nomination form and a current CV, and be submitted to standards@racgp.org.au by 29 May. The RACGP is encouraging doctors with experience and an interest in quality improvement to apply.
This week’s update also highlights Privacy Awareness Week, running from 4–10 May. Practices are being encouraged to review their privacy policies and procedures in line with the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. The initiative focuses on building trust through proper handling of personal information, including privacy complaints and data protection.
Another reminder has been issued about early bird registrations for the RACGP Practice Owners Conference, held in Sydney on 23–24 May. The discounted registration closes on Monday 4 May at 11.00 pm (AEST). The event theme, “Stronger in practice,” focuses on improving practice management skills.
Applications for the 2026 RACGP Mentoring Program are also open until 31 May. The program supports GPs in developing professional relationships, building confidence, and sharing experience with peers.
Other updates include opportunities for members to provide feedback to the Australian Resuscitation Council on resuscitation guidelines and training, as well as invitations to upcoming webinars covering child mental health, complex patient care, and veteran health services.
A Department of Veterans’ Affairs Town Hall meeting will also be held on 7 May, giving healthcare providers a chance to hear updates relevant to veterans and their families.
The update brings together professional development opportunities, policy reminders, and ways for GPs to contribute to national standards and healthcare improvement.
