RACGP Highlights New Training and Resources for Australian GPs

The 2026 General Practice in Addiction (GPADD) Conference will be held in Melbourne on 28–29 August. The event will provide practical workshops and evidence-based education to support GPs caring for patients affected by alcohol and other drug use. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn from experts and connect with colleagues.
The General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaboration (GPMHSC) has also released new resources to help GPs provide trauma-informed and culturally safe care for refugee and asylum seeker patients. The guidance includes practical advice on building trust, communicating respectfully, working with interpreters and understanding the unique challenges many refugee patients experience.
Applications for the RACGP Future Leaders Program open on 1 August for the 2027 intake. The fully funded program offers leadership training, professional development resources and 37 CPD hours for GPs interested in developing leadership skills.
GPs can also join an upcoming webinar on 29 July, presented by RACGP Specific Interests and Emerging Minds, focusing on supporting children with attention and behaviour challenges. The session will cover practical strategies for implementing care plans, monitoring progress and helping families access appropriate support services.
In addition, the WA Early-Career GP Conference will take place on 8 August at the University Club of Western Australia. The conference will feature clinical updates on ADHD care, sexual health and skin cancer, while providing practical guidance for GPs in the early years of Fellowship.
