RACGP Highlights Key Deadlines and Learning Opportunities for Australian GPs

One of the most important dates for doctors is the annual medical registration renewal through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). The renewal period opens next week, with practitioners required to complete the process before 30 September. Doctors are encouraged to renew as early as possible to avoid delays caused by login or multi-factor authentication (MFA) issues.
Practitioners who hold more than one registration or endorsement are also advised to confirm that every registration has been successfully renewed. To help doctors complete the process, AHPRA will present an online information session in early August covering the renewal steps and common technical questions.
Alongside registration updates, the RACGP has drawn attention to several learning opportunities available throughout August. AHPRA will host educational sessions focusing on practitioner wellbeing, recovery from alcohol and substance misuse, and leadership pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health professionals.
The college is also supporting continuing professional development through a webinar examining the health impacts of climate change on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The session will explore how culturally safe, climate-informed healthcare can strengthen community wellbeing.
Healthcare professionals interested in preventive medicine will also have the opportunity to attend National Guide workshops being held in Western Australia and the Northern Territory.The workshops provide practical guidance on preventive healthcare while allowing participants to earn CPD hours.
Doctors who have recently achieved Fellowship can also access a webinar focused on managing the financial side of medical practice. Topics include taxation, cash flow, debt management, investment planning and building long-term financial stability during the early stages of a GP career.
The RACGP says these initiatives are intended to help doctors remain compliant with professional requirements while continuing to develop their clinical knowledge, cultural capability and career skills.
