RACGP Faculty Council election results begin to take shape

The RACGP has 11 Faculty Councils, covering states and territories as well as Specific Interests, GPs in Training, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, and Rural.
The GPs elected unopposed are:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Faculty: Dr Angela Forrest, Dr Clare Frawley and Dr Alyssa Vass
- GPs in Training Faculty: Dr Allyce Counsell
- NSW and ACT Faculty: Dr Charbel Badr, Dr Chris Dickie and Dr Corin Miller
- Northern Territory Faculty: Dr Melanie Matthews, Dr Louise Fish, Dr Dana Fitzsimmons and Dr Emma Kennedy
- Rural Faculty: Dr Rodney Omond, Dr Konrad Kangru, Dr Christie Rodda and Dr Michael Hurley
- Specific Interests Faculty: Dr Nick Cooling, Dr John Crimmins, Dr Elizabeth Elliott, Dr Kerry Hancock, Dr Timothy Jones, Professor Glynn Kelly, Dr Anthony Marinucci, Dr Mark Mellor, Dr Tamara Nation, Dr Tracey Purnell, Dr Tim Senior, Dr Wei May Su and Professor Nick Zwar
- Tasmania Faculty: Dr Timothy Jones and Dr Divya Singh
For Rural Faculty Council member Dr Rodney Omond, the result marks 15 years serving on the council.
During his time on the council, Dr Omond said rural GP advocacy had made important progress. One recent achievement was the approval of Rural Generalism for specialist registration by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
He also highlighted the college’s stronger focus on rural and remote GPs. According to Dr Omond, the contribution of doctors working outside metropolitan areas is now more widely recognised across the RACGP.
Looking ahead, he said an important priority for the Rural Faculty will be better recognition and pay for non-procedural Rural Generalists with additional skills in areas such as paediatrics, mental health and palliative care.
Voting for contested Faculty Council positions remains open until 12.00 pm (AEST) on Thursday, 17 September 2026.
The successful candidates will be announced on Friday, 18 September 2026.
