Health concerns can vary as the weather changes. Periods of high temperatures may lead to heat-related illness, while increased grass pollen can affect people with hay fever or asthma.

Thunderstorms can also create a risk of thunderstorm asthma when they occur during periods of high pollen.

Mosquito activity is another concern. Warm weather after rainfall can create conditions that support higher mosquito numbers and increase the chance of mosquito-borne diseases.

Several of these risks may occur close together or develop over a short period.

Victoria’s Chief Health Officer, Dr Caroline McElnay, has urged Victorians to prepare early so they can respond more quickly when weather conditions change.

People are advised to monitor local weather updates, warnings and health information. They should also consider the seasonal risks that could affect them and decide what action they will take if conditions change.
