Pertussis cases at 35-year high, GPs urged to guide patients

Children under 14 are the most affected, and NSW and Queensland report the highest numbers.

Federal Health Minister Mark Butler said declining vaccination rates and global vaccine hesitancy mean the country faces a “big job ahead”.

RACGP President Michael Wright highlighted the role of GPs in helping patients distinguish reliable vaccine information from misinformation, and encouraging immunisation across all age groups, including pregnant women and older Australians.
