People with Motor Neurone Disease to Receive Faster Access to Aged Care Funding
24 Jun 2026
Under the change, older Australians diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and identified during their aged care assessment will receive priority access to funding through the Support at Home program.
The initiative is expected to benefit around 600 people each year and will also apply to individuals who have already been approved for ongoing Support at Home funding, including those who transitioned from the Home Care Packages Program.
People assigned urgent priority status will receive their full Support at Home funding within one month of approval, helping them access care and support more quickly as their needs change.
The Government has advised that people whose MND diagnosis was recorded during their most recent aged care assessment do not need to undergo a new assessment.
However, individuals diagnosed after their previous assessment and currently waiting for funding can contact My Aged Care to arrange a reassessment so their diagnosis can be formally recorded.
The change aims to improve timely access to care for people living with MND, a progressive condition that can lead to rapidly changing support needs.
