Pathology and Imaging Reports to Be Shared by Default from 1 July 2026
11 Jun 2026
The change applies to written reports only and does not include diagnostic images. It is part of broader digital health reforms aimed at improving access to patient information across different healthcare settings.
The update is expected to make My Health Record more useful in clinical practice by improving visibility of test results and helping clinicians access a more complete picture of a patient’s health history.
Health stakeholders have consistently called for digital health systems that better support clinical workflows, continuity of care and usability in everyday practice.
The expanded sharing arrangements are intended to reduce information gaps and support more connected care between patients, GPs and specialists.
However, as patients may be able to view some results before a follow-up consultation, clear communication between doctors and patients about test results and next steps will remain important.
More information about the changes and implementation guidance is available on the Digital Health Agency website.
