Northern Tasmania expands radiation oncology cancer care team

Dr Stephen Kennedy has joined the service from Western Australia as the new Head of Department. He brings clinical and leadership experience to the role and will support the ongoing development of radiation oncology services across the region.
The service has also welcomed back Dr Samuel Cooke, who previously trained as a radiation oncology registrar with the department. Dr Cooke later worked in Victoria before returning to Northern Tasmania.
Dr Samuel Bossa is the latest specialist to join the team, moving from Canberra. His experience adds further expertise to the department and supports the service's ability to care for patients and their families during cancer treatment.
The expanded workforce is helping improve access to specialist radiation oncology care. Services are also being provided regularly to communities across Tasmania's North West, supported by the department's established telehealth service.
The current Radiation Oncology team includes:

- Dr David Byram
- Dr Samuel Cooke
- Dr Phoebe Chidley
- Dr Lina Steffan, Radiation Oncology Senior Registrar
- Dr Miki Wada, Radiation Oncology Advanced Trainee
The team aims to provide high-quality, patient-centred cancer care as close to patients' homes as possible.
The Northern Cancer Service said the growth of the radiation oncology workforce will support continued improvements in access to cancer services for communities across Northern and North West Tasmania.
