No Plans to Show GP Fees on Medical Costs Website
04 Mar 2026
The laws, introduced to Federal Parliament last month, aim to make specialist fees and private health insurance costs clearer. While GPs are mentioned in the legislation as the first point of contact for patients, DoHDA says the focus remains on non-GP specialists.
A spokesperson said the option to include GP fees is “for future flexibility”, but there’s no plan to list them now.
The Medical Costs Finder, launched in 2019, currently relies on voluntary participation from specialists. Uptake has been low, with only 1–2% of specialists sharing fees by the end of last year.
