New Yarning Guide Encourages Disability Conversations in First Nations Communities

30 Oct 2026

The guide uses real-life stories and discussion questions to challenge stereotypes, address negative attitudes and recognise the diverse experiences of First Nations people with disability. It also provides culturally safe information to encourage greater understanding and build more inclusive and supportive communities.

International Day of People with Disability is observed worldwide on 3 December each year. The United Nations day aims to promote awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability.

An editable slideshow presentation is also available to help community groups, workplaces and schools organise local yarning sessions.

The resources were co-designed with First Nations community members and feature original artwork by Yaegl and Bundjalung artist Aneika Kapeen.
