New Support Package Helps Women Access Care After Gynaecologist Allegations

The initiative includes Care Navigators to guide patients through follow-up care and specialist appointments via their GPs.

The RACGP has worked with the Victorian and Federal governments to set up the package, which funds Primary Health Networks to provide individualised care coordination. It aims to strengthen the general practice and gynaecology workforce, update endometriosis guidelines, and provide education and training for health professionals.

Federal Health Minister Mark Butler said the package will give impacted women tailored support to navigate the health system, while RACGP President Dr Michael Wright said GPs can expect more questions from patients seeking information on care and endometriosis.

The Victorian Government is also contributing $2 million to provide additional specialist endometriosis services at Barwon Health, Monash Health, Eastern Health, Western Health, and the Royal Women’s Hospital. Referrals will be available from mid-April via the Women’s Health Victoria concerns line, and patients can request callbacks through the website.
