New resource helps GPs work effectively with interpreters

08 Oct 2026

The resource explains when an interpreter should be used and how GPs and practice teams can work with interpreters during consultations.

It also covers the risks of using informal interpreters, including bilingual staff and AI-assisted communication.

The guide provides information about NAATI certification, quality standards and billing for consultations that use an interpreter.

A quick guide has also been released to help GPs work effectively with interpreters in general practice.

It will also look at changes in dementia diagnosis and ethical issues related to testing for Alzheimer's disease.

AI and mental health

Another RACGP webinar, How mental is your AI?, will be held on Tuesday 13 October from 7 to 8.30 pm AEDT.

The session is worth 1.5 EA hours of CPD and will focus on digital tools used in mental health care.
